What You'll Learn
- Which Apple Intelligence features arrive first and which devices qualify
- Three executive-relevant workflows arriving this fall at no additional cost
- What the Siri-ChatGPT integration actually does (and does not do)
The CEO of a professional services firm has resisted adding AI tools to her iPhone workflow. She uses Claude on her laptop daily. The hesitation is practical: a separate app, a separate login, and a separate subscription for mobile AI does not fit how she works between meetings.
Apple Intelligence removes that friction. This fall, AI writing assistance, priority notification sorting, and a smarter Siri arrive on qualifying Apple devices as part of the operating system update. No new subscription, no new app. The tools appear inside Mail, Notes, Pages, and the apps executives already use.
The developer beta is available now for registered Apple developers on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. General availability is planned for fall 2024 alongside the public iOS 18 release.

Device Requirements
- iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max (A17 Pro chip required)
- iPad: iPad Pro with M1 chip or later; iPad Air with M1 chip or later
- Mac: Any Mac with M1 chip or later (MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro from 2020 onward)
Language requirement at launch: English (US) only. Additional languages planned for 2025. Older devices including iPhone 15 standard and iPhone 14 series do not qualify.
Feature 1: Writing Tools
Writing Tools appears as a contextual menu in any text field across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. Select any text, tap or right-click, and look for "Writing Tools" in the contextual menu.
- Rewrite: Restructures text while preserving meaning. Useful for turning rough phone drafts into polished communications.
- Proofread: Identifies grammar, spelling, and clarity issues with inline suggestions.
- Summarize: Collapses long text into a shorter version. Works on emails, documents, and pasted text.
- Make Friendly / More Professional / Concise: Tone adjustments using preset styles.
Feature 2: Priority Notifications and Smart Replies
Apple Intelligence surfaces the most time-sensitive notifications in a Priority section at the top of the notification stack. The model evaluates urgency based on sender relationship, content keywords, and interaction history.
Smart Replies in Mail and Messages suggests two or three reply options that capture the likely intent. Tap one to pre-populate a reply, then edit or send. Expect lower accuracy in the first few weeks as the model builds your interaction profile.
Feature 3: Siri with ChatGPT Integration
This is not a permanent ChatGPT integration. When Siri encounters a query requiring ChatGPT's capabilities, it offers to forward the request with your permission. You confirm or decline per request. No ChatGPT account required for basic queries. ChatGPT Plus subscribers can link accounts for higher rate limits and GPT-4o access.
For regulated industries (finance, healthcare, legal): Review your organization's AI data policy before enabling the ChatGPT integration. Writing Tools and Priority Notifications (on-device processing) are lower-risk.
The Bottom Line
Apple Intelligence's first-release features are the right ones for executive workflows. Writing Tools is immediately practical in Mail and Notes. Priority Notifications reduces notification cognitive load without requiring behavior change. If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or qualifying Mac, the iOS 18 update installs Apple Intelligence automatically this fall. If you are considering an iPhone upgrade, the Pro tier now has a productivity advantage the standard tier does not.
