Anthropic's Claude 3 models are now generally available through Amazon Bedrock. For enterprises already running on AWS, this removes the last remaining friction point between "we want to use Claude" and "Claude is live in production."

Choosing the Right Model

Claude 3 in Bedrock comes in two tiers relevant to enterprise use:

Claude 3 Haiku ($0.25 per million input tokens): Fastest response times, lowest cost, suited for high-volume tasks where speed matters more than depth. Use cases include customer service routing, document classification, and email triage.

Claude 3 Sonnet ($3 per million input tokens): Stronger reasoning, better at complex instructions, longer effective context. Use cases include contract review, board report summarization, and multi-step research synthesis.

For most initial enterprise deployments, start with Haiku for volume workflows and Sonnet for executive-facing outputs.

Four-Step Deployment Checklist

• Enable model access. In the Amazon Bedrock console, navigate to "Model access" in the left sidebar. Request access for Claude 3 Haiku and Claude 3 Sonnet. Access is typically granted within minutes.
• Create a scoped IAM role. Create a new IAM role with bedrock:InvokeModel permissions scoped to only the Claude model ARNs your team needs. Attach your existing S3 and DynamoDB policies if the pipeline reads from or writes to those services.
• Run your first API call. Use the Bedrock runtime invoke_model endpoint with a test payload. A simple document summary request on a 5-10 page PDF is sufficient to validate latency and output quality.
• Set CloudWatch baselines. Create a CloudWatch dashboard tracking token consumption per model, latency per call, and error rate. Establish cost-per-request benchmarks in the first week before scaling volume.

What This Means for Enterprise IT

The Bedrock integration means Claude inherits your existing AWS compliance posture. VPC endpoints keep traffic off the public internet. CloudTrail logs every API call for audit purposes. AWS PrivateLink is available for organizations with strict data residency requirements.

For executives sponsoring AI pilots, this matters because it removes the standard objections from security and compliance teams. The question is no longer whether Claude can be deployed safely. It already passes the same security review that approved your other AWS services.

First-Week Action Plan

Start with one high-volume, low-risk document workflow. Contract intake, invoice classification, and customer inquiry categorization are all strong candidates. Run Haiku for one week, measure accuracy against your existing process, and calculate per-document cost. That data becomes the business case for broader rollout.
