Day 3 of OpenAI's 12 Days event brought Sora, the text-to-video model in closed beta since February. Day 9 brought ChatGPT Projects, a feature that organizes conversations by topic with persistent context and file storage. Two different capabilities with different audiences.
Sora is for executives who produce content: sales materials, product explanations, internal training. ChatGPT Projects is for executives who use ChatGPT as a daily work tool and are frustrated by having to re-explain context at the start of every session. The audience for Projects is broader.
This article covers both: what each does, where the real limitations are, and the specific action steps worth taking this week.

ChatGPT Projects: What It Is and Why It Matters
Each project maintains: persistent conversation history (all conversations within a project are visible and searchable within that context); file storage (upload documents and they remain available for every subsequent conversation in that project); and custom instructions per project that override default system behavior. A legal client project can emphasize precision and citation. A marketing project can emphasize brevity and persuasion.
Why it matters: executives managing multiple clients or departments spend 3 to 5 minutes per ChatGPT session re-explaining context. Across 5 sessions per day, that is 15 to 25 minutes of ramp-up time that adds no value. Projects eliminate that ramp-up. Open a project, start typing, and the model already knows the client, the context, and your preferences.
Setting Up Your First Three Projects
- Click "New Project" in the ChatGPT sidebar. Available to Plus, Pro, and Teams subscribers. Name the project after the client, department, or initiative. Keep names specific: "Acme Corp" not "Clients."
- Upload your core reference documents. For a client project: the client brief, relevant contracts or SOWs, key meeting notes, and communication style guide. For a department project: current quarter's goals, team roster, and documents referenced regularly.
- Write the project's custom instructions. Include the entity context (2-3 sentences), key stakeholders (names and roles), current priorities (top 1-3 items), preferred output format, and the instruction: "Flag any assumption I should verify before using this externally."
- Start working inside the project immediately. Open the project and begin your first conversation. The model enters already loaded with documents and instructions. Build the habit in the first session.
Sora: What It Actually Produces
Sora generates video from text descriptions, up to 20 seconds at up to 1080p. Access at sora.com with your ChatGPT account. Plus: 50 priority generations per month. Pro: 500 per month. Sora handles abstract, stylized, and conceptual visuals reliably: connected networks, data flows, animated process representations, market opportunity visualizations. It does not reliably render readable on-screen text, maintain precise brand elements, or produce complex narrative continuity across a 20-second clip.
The Sora Prompt Structure for Business Content
Specify: animation style (smooth zoom-out, data visualization, clean digital), subject and action (what is shown and what it does), environment (dark navy background, abstract digital, minimal white), quality indicators (professional, polished, smooth motion), tone (confident, sophisticated, optimistic), and any specific visual requirement. Generate 3 to 5 variations from the same prompt before evaluating or iterating. Download the best output and add any text overlays in Canva, CapCut, or any video editor after downloading.
